Fantasy No. 5

I no longer miss your body
except sometimes
in the terrible silences that visit me
when this month’s mistress is off somewhere
demonstrating her independence

then
some freakish coupling of nostalgia and novelty
(or non-availability)
pushes you sometimes
onto my finger-ends

but your photograph is in hiding
and I lack enthusiasm
for creeping up
and surprising it

I no longer miss our playing
at being children
being intent now
on playing at being
grown-up
