Non-Sportsman’s Prayer

I don’t complain
at always being thrown in
at the deep end
of the Swimming Pool of Life

nor that my entry
onto the Mixed Singles court
always finds me
pitifully out of condition
and devoid of self confidence

Just this once though
I would appreciate
a long, steady breast stroke
and no crawling;
a clean service
with no dubious footwork;
a match with no losers
